Pat McClanan Shriver
Co-Director of Instruction at the Shriver Golf Academy
Pat McClanan Shriver has been teaching golf in the Tampa Bay area for the past 20 years, and has been a PGA Class A member since 1995. Upon graduating from Virginia Wesleyan College with a double major in Business Management and French, Shriver moved to Florida to begin her career in golf. Pat began playing golf as a child in Virginia Beach, VA at the Princess Anne C.C., where golf was a family affair. Her father grew up playing that same golf course, played college golf at University of Miami, and is currently playing the mid-Atlantic and Virginia state senior events, playing great golf. He has mentored his daughter throughout her golf career and continues to be her biggest fan!
Having played junior golf, high school golf, college golf, Futures Tour golf, and currently playing North Florida PGA Section tournament golf, Pat has had much experience on the golf course, and prides herself in being able to coach students to play their best as a result of this playing experience. For students, it’s of utmost importance that their instructor can play good golf. In order to be the best instructor, the teacher must be a great player too. Pat keeps her skills up by competing as much as possible.
Pat has worked very hard throughout her career, and has had much success as a PGA Teaching Professional, being awarded the 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000 North Florida PGA West Central Chapter Teacher of the Year Award, as well as the 1999 North Florida PGA Section Teacher of the Year Award. Pat is the only woman to win this award for the North Florida Section to date, and was honored with this award by her peers, who are 90% men. Pat has written articles for Golf for Women Magazine, has been among Golf Digest’s Top 100 Instructors, and did Golf Tips on Channel 44 News at 10:00 for several years.
Shriver is most proud of the success that her students have had playing golf over the years, and the fact that she is now teaching and coaching second generations of families. Having coached many children to college golf, and one child that she coached who is currently playing on the LPGA tour. Pat has made lifelong friendships with her students, and had lasting coaching relationships with her students. It is that consistency that wins golf tournaments. It has been so rewarding to see families play golf together, and enjoy golf, just as much as it has been rewarding to see children grow up playing golf and win tournaments.
Currently, Pat and her husband Bill, have a wonderful junior program, with many champion golfers, starting at young ages. These children are learning life skills through golf, and have been winning tournaments all over the U.S. and traveling abroad. Currently, Pat has college golfers competing in Universities around the country.
Pat has been very involved in many volunteer organizations throughout her past 20 years in golf. Pat has donated her time to the LPGA girls club in the past and given many free clinics for children’s organizations. Shriver has been President of the PTA of Belleair Elementary School for two years, and has spent the past 12 years hosting the All Children’s Hospital Charity Golf Classic, where she has helped raise over $100,000.00 for the hospital. She enjoys being active within the community and enjoys being very involved in her church. She has one son, Drew, who keeps her very busy off the golf course, as being a mom is number one priority for Pat.
Pat McClanan Shriver has loved golf all her life, and if you come and spend some time at the Shriver Golf Academy, you will have a wonderful time, learn to play better golf, and love it too.
